J.K. Simmons left quite an impression on audiences with his portrayal of J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-man trilogy. It was for that reason that fans were shocked and ecstatic to see him in a cameo at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. Now Simmons has confirmed that he has signed on for subsequent MCU appearances to further menace Tom Holland’s friendly neighborhood webslinger.

When asked about when he is expected to return to the MCU on PeopleTV's show Couch Surfing, Simmons responded "I don't know if I would use the word expect." Though Disney-Marvel/Sony signed the actor on for Spider-Man sequels, there is no contractual obligation to include J. Jonah Jameson as a reoccurring presence, even if fans will likely demand it. Despite this, Simmons remains enthusiastic about replaying the character, stating "It's great to have the opportunity, as these things evolve, to be one of the holdovers from the previous version."

Simmons famously played Jameson, the blusterous and fervent Spider-Man-hating editor-in-chief of the Daily Bugle newspaper, in Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy. To this day his portrayal remains a universal highlight of those films, perfectly capturing the character's mannerisms and demeanor from the comic panels. Simmons reprised the role and voiced Jameson in various animated shows like Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Ultimate Spider-Man before returning to the character on the big screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In Spider-Man: Far From Home's post-credit scene, Jameson unveils Mysterio's doctored footage to New York City, blaming Spider-Man for his drone attack on London while exposing Peter Parker's identity. It is revealed that the MCU's Jameson runs the Daily Bugle not as a newspaper, but an online news outlet.

The third Spider-Man film in the MCU is currently scheduled for release on November 5, 2021. However, production is currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
