Miles Morales returns with Sony Pictures releasing the synopsis for the long-awaited sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the young web slinger will be meeting some new allies in this cinematic outing.

According to the aforementioned synopsis, Miles will return for "an epic adventure" that will take him "across the Multiverse." This leads to Miles joining forces with Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman and "a new team of Spider-People" to do battle with an enemy described as being "more powerful than anything they have ever encountered." The synopsis, however, does not name any of the new Spider-People Miles will meet or identify the big bad that they are set to battle. A rumor from earlier this year had claimed that lesser-known Spider-Man antagonist the Spot would be involved with the sequel.

Aside from the synopsis, Sony also released the first trailer for the movie, which revealed its name to be Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One), suggesting that another sequel is on the horizon. Said trailer also contained new footage from the film, which saw the full debut of Spider-Man 2099 after being teased in the end credits of the first film. It should be noted that the Across the Spider-Verse title had supposedly been leaked online in October before its new name revealed that the sequel will be part of a larger story.

In addition, it was announced earlier this year that Across the Spider-Verse would be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson. "The crew behind the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse set such a ridiculously high bar, and we're humbled to take on the challenge of charting the next chapter in the story of Miles Morales," the trio commented.

In regards to the Spider-People featured in Across the Spider-Verse, the official Spider-Verse Twitter account shared a tease last November consisting of 17 variations of Miles' insignia, differing in color and aesthetic in Twitter's Fleet option. It was also reported back in June that Issa Rae would be voicing the original Spider-Woman Jessica Drew in the film, while producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller teased that Silk and Supaidāman protagonist Takuya Yamashiro would also be in it.
