Phil Lord and Chris Miller have teased that Cindy Moon, aka Silk, will appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2.Although Joaquim Dos Santos' movie isn't due out in theaters until October 2022, that hasn't stopped the producers repeatedly hinting at what's to come. Posting on Twitter, Lord asked for advice on wearing masks during the coronavirus pandemic. Miller took the opportunity to post an image of Silk while seemingly teasing her involvement in Into the Spider-Verse 2. Fans should note that while the artwork looks similar in style to Into the Spider-Verse's animation, it comes from the cover of Marvel Comics' Silk Vol. 2. Given that Lord and Miller are currently working on producing Into the Spider-Verse 2, fans quickly put the pieces together and guessed Silk will be in the movie. That being said, neither director has actually confirmed Moon's inclusion.RELATED: Into the Spider-Verse Producer Teases New Animation Techniques for Sequel

Despite her relatively late arrival to the Marvel Universe in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man #1, Silk has quickly become a popular character. Moon was introduced as a Korean American superhero who was bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers. Since then, Silk has appeared in a number of major storylines, including Marvel's own Spider-Verse event. Silk was even set to appear in Into the Spider-Verse before the writers settled on using Peni Parker instead.

Back in 2018, Amy Pascal said there was a live-action Silk movie in development that would become part of the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters alongside Venom, Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web. Elsewhere, there's supposed to be an all-female Spider-Verse spinoff that will include Spider-Gwen, Silk and Jessica Drew's Spider-Woman. Steinfeld recently said she'd heard nothing about the proposed spinoff, but if Silk does appear in Into the Spider-Verse 2, it could open the door for the all-female ensemble.

Lord previously hinted that "Japanese Spider-Man" from the 1978 series could feature in the next movie. It's also important to remember that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's post-credits scene teased the arrival of Miguel O'Hara as Spider-Man 2099. While the first movie saw Miles and Gwen team up with everyone from Spider-Ham to Spider-Man Noir, there is the possibility of a new team of Spider heroes assembling for the next chapter.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 arrives in theaters Oct. 7, 2022.
