A first look at the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel will be swinging in soon.

When asked about the current status of Spider-Verse 2 during a recent interview with Fandango, producer Amy Pascal touched on the animated film's progress and when audiences can expect its first footage to debut. "[Spider-Verse 2 is] going to be fantastic," Pascal said. "We have something to show on that very soon." Unfortunately for fans hoping to circle a date on their calendars, Pascal didn't provide any further details on when our first look at the Spider-Verse sequel is expected to drop.

Although plot details for the film are unknown at the moment, its potentially leaked title, which was spotted online last month, may suggest the direction the sequel will be taking the story. As such, if Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is in fact the title, then the film may presumably explore several alternate universes instead of mostly Miles' this time around.

Spider-Verse 2's directorial team was announced earlier this year, with directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson taking over the helm from the previous film's trio of Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman. Returning writers and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller commented on the sequel's directors in a statement, saying, "All three of them elevate every project they take on, and they are certainly raising our game. We honestly just like them and want to be their friends and we're hoping working on this movie together for the next few years will totally make that happen."

As for the film's cast, voice actors Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld are expected to reprise their roles as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, respectively. Meanwhile, Issa Rae, who viewers may recognize from Insecure fame, is reportedly set to voice Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman in the Spider-Verse sequel. Lord and Miller have even hinted at appearances from Cindy Moon/Silk and Takuya Yamashiro/the Japanese Spider-Man.

Originally released in 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse follows Miles Morales, who becomes his universe's resident Web-Slinger following the death of Peter Parker. But when his and several other dimensions are threatened, Miles is forced to team up with five other individuals from alternate realities who possess similar spider-like powers. The animated film received widespread claim upon release, as its comic book-inspired visuals, colorful characters and self-aware script all helped propel Spider-Verse to over $300 million at the box office and an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 arrives in theaters Oct. 7, 2022.
