SPOILER WARNING: This article contains potential spoilers for Spider-Man: Homecoming

The mystery of Zendaya's Spider-Man: Homecoming character continues. Last week's report that Zendaya will play Michelle Toomes, a relative of the Vulture, has been debunked by various other sources.

According to the earlier report, the leaked junior novelization of the film revealed Michelle’s last name as Toomes, indicating she’s related the film’s primary antagonist Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture. Now, however, ScreenGeek.net has gathered a number of other sources from Tumblr and Reddit that say otherwise. Per Tumblr, Michelle is never given a last name in this junior novelization, thus debunking the rumor.

Of course, that doesn't rule out the possibility that Michelle is related to Vulture; it just isn't confirmed at this time. Much of the speculation surrounding Zendaya's mysterious character pins her as a version of Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker's longtime love interest and eventual wife. However, few details about Michelle have emerged, so it's difficult to truly pinpoint who she is. Fans will just have to wait until Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters in just under a month to find out.

According to the synopsis for the film,

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

Arriving in theaters July 7, Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts and stars Tom Holland, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.
