Casting is already under way for the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming 2, with Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios reportedly searching for an actor or actress to play the villain.

That Hashtag Show contends the studios are casting a wide net for a primary antagonist with "elevated ideas." "In an interesting twist, not only has the studio not pinned down the ethnicity of the villain," the website writes, "but they’re also open to auditioning male and female leads, ages 30-45, for the part."

While fans will undoubtedly attempt to parse a deeper meaning behind the phrase "elevated ideas," it's still difficult to zero in on which member of Spider-Man's sizable, and colorful, rogues gallery the filmmakers are considering for the sequel.

In addition to a villain, the film is also said to be searching for a "Bond-type girl," and an actor who is "leading man" material to play a new high school student.

Arriving July 5, 2019, just two months after the release of Avengers 4, the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel will be directed by the returning Jon Watts, and will once again star Tom Holland as Peter Parker.
