WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #58 by Nick Spencer, Marcelo Ferreira, Wayne Faucher, Morry Hollowell & VC's Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

After an especially trying storyline, Spider-Man barely survived his fight with Kindred and escaped with his life because of Norman Osborn and Wilson Fisk's timely intervention. However, once Kindred was locked away, Peter Parker told Norman that he wanted nothing more to do with the Osborn family and said he was leaving that entire situation.

However, Amazing Spider-Man #58 proves that  Peter Parker was not truly ready to shut them out of his life yet. He knew that Harry had a wife and son who loved him, and they believed he was finally clear of the insanity that drove him to take on the role of the Green Golbin, passed down from his own father. Peter had to talk to Liz Allen, and Harry's son Normie was there to let them know he knew what was going on. However, Normie revealed that he was already aware of his family's villainous legacy more than anyone realized.

Normie Osborn

Peter pointed out that Normie never had a normal childhood. His grandfather was the Green Goblin and was clinically insane. When not losing his grip on his sanity, Norman Osborn was still one of the more evil men on the planet. As the elder Osborn is coming to terms with, Norman treated his son Harry so poorly that Harry had little chance to make a normal life. And after he thought Spider-Man killed his father, Harry followed in his footsteps, becoming the Green Goblin, and tried to kill Peter over and over. He also dragged his wife Liz and son Normie into it.

When Harry died saving Peter's life, his son had an unhealthy obsession with Spider-Man as well. Normie was seen as a young child, playing with his Spider-Man action figures, talking about how much he hated Spider-Man. He would often pretend to be hurting Spider-Man, which probably came from the idea that Harry felt that Spider-Man hurt him and his family as well. Peter mentioned how Normie had to grow up too fast. This was true when Norman returned as Red Goblin and abducted his own grandson. There was a good chance that Normie would drift into the same life his father did before him, delusional and convinced Spider-Man was trying to ruin their lives.

Normie Osborn Green Goblin

However, there was a moment in this issue where it looked like Normie might have a chance after all. While Liz Allen was once again in denial about Harry, as she has been their entire marriage, Normie said that people needed to quit lying to him all the time. He led Peter and Liz down the hall and showed them a hidden room in the apartment that contained the Goblin Glider and some pumpkin bombs. Normie then said his father Harry lied to him all the time, and he was tired of it. Despite his youth, this shows a level of awareness about his father that even alluded Harry for years.

One has to hope that after the damage that Norman Osborn did to Harry, turning him into a villain after so many years of torment, that Normie might be ready to break the family curse. There has always been the hint that Normie is a bit sociopathic, as he often seemed buried in his own little world and had an intense hatred for Spider-Man, which was too similar to that of his dad. But if Normie has realized the lies his father always spread and sees how it has ruined his family and hurt his mother, there might be a chance for the young Osborn after all.
