CBR can exclusively present a selection of photos showing artist Alex Ross' artistic process on the Green Goblin's Timeless illustration.

Ross is of the most esteemed illustrators in comic books, with his recent Timeless murals of Marvel heroes and villains serving as variant covers and highly coveted collectibles. The CBR exclusive photos show Ross' meticulous journey from pencils to a finished product that depicts one of Spider-Man's greatest villains in all of his giggling glory.

"The Green Goblin is almost like the perfect representative Marvel villain character because he's so poppy and vibrant," Ross said of his painting. "I grew up with him as a main supervillain character I knew everything about." Ross' Green Goblin artwork will be used as a variant cover for Hallow's Eve #1, releasing on March 1. Other Ross paintings depicting major Marvel villains -- from Magneto to M.O.D.O.K. -- will grace the front of variant covers throughout the month.

Alex Ross' Upcoming Private CGC Signing

The images of Ross drawing the Green Goblin were released to coincide with the artist's recent collaboration with Certified Guaranty Company (CGC), the premier association for grading comic books and other pop culture collectibles. Fans who want their comics to be signed by Ross and graded at an in-house private event can sign up for a CGC account online and submit their books until April 14. The fee is $110 per item, and the estimated turnaround time for grading is six weeks. To mark the rare occurrence, those who submit their comics will receive an exclusive, limited edition Alex Ross custom label featuring the artist's logo.

“The Signature Series team is honored to have Alex join us for this exclusive private signing,” said Brittany McManus, CGC Signature Series Director. “Alex is one of the industry’s most beloved artists. We’re so stoked to have him join us and be able to offer fans a chance to collect his signature!”

Ross is renowned for his work at both Marvel and DC on a variety of critically acclaimed projects, including the likes of Fantastic Four: Full Circle and Kingdom Come. His Timeless illustrations come in two variants -- one depicting the heroes of the Marvel universe and another featuring the villains. In 2020, Ross' Timeless heroes art decorated the walls of Marvel's office. The villains version of the piece was finished in late 2022.
