Insomniac's Spider-Man game has more than just a release date -- it also has a new playable character. The game's Creative Director, Bryan Intihar, revealed that Peter Parker's longtime squeeze, Mary Jane Watson, will be playable in a video game for the first time ever.

In an interview in the latest issue of Game Informer, Intihar also revealed that Mary Jane will be much different from the comic books. In fact, she will be taking Peter Parker’s usual place at the Daily Bugle as an investigative journalist, going so far as being the one who orders Spider-Man around.

“What we’re really excited about is MJ’s arc is more than just cutscenes,” Intihar revealed. “She’s a playable character at certain points, each with unique missions and gameplay mechanics.”

This should come as welcome news for fans of the character, who has more than made a name for herself in the comic books. Although she is often tied to the Spider-Man mythos, Mary Jane Watson is more than able to stand on her own two feet — and her inclusion in the game is further proof of that.
