FandangoNOW has announced the launch of IMAX Enhanced -- a new type of digital film aimed at creating the most immersive, cinema-like experience at home, and the flagship for the feature is Spider-Man: Far From Home, with new titles slated to be adapted in the near future.

Developed in partnership with DTS and IMAX Corporation, FandangoNOW claims IMAX Enhanced to be "the world's premiere at-home entertainment experience." IMAX Enhanced films use "the newest, proprietary digital remastering technology developed by IMAX to deliver ultra-vivid 4K HDR picture with more vibrant colors" with the aim of "enabling viewers the full scope and scale of the picture as filmmakers intended." In addition to this, IMAX Enhanced also uses "a special variant of the DTS:X codec technology integrated in home audio equipment to deliver an IMAX signature sound experience with more immersive, powerful sound."

Currently, Far From Home is the only film in FandangoNOW's IMAX Enhanced catalog, and even so, there are only 45 minutes where the IMAX aspect ratio is used. However, FandangoNOW has stated the feature will be rolled out periodically, adding films such as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, The Angry Birds Movie 2 and Bumblebee next. The feature is also only currently available on select Sony 4K Android televisions, with "additional devices to be added in the coming months."

While the release is limited in terms of both the hardware and film catalog, the IMAX Enhanced feature could allow those with high-end home theaters to get one step closer to truly having the true cinema experience without leaving the house.
