Spider-Man: Far From Home - Every Major Revelation in the First Trailer

THE MASTER OF ILLUSION

Spider-Man-Far-From-Home-Mysterio

Toward the end of the trailer, we see what many fans have been eagerly awaiting since the appearance of this character was announced: The arrival of Mysterio, master of illusion. Like the creature of theatricals he is, Mysterio emerges from a cloud of smoke to help defend Venice from one of the elemental monsters. He flies around firing what look to be green energy beams in an act of heroism, which many might not have been expecting. Although, keep in mind that with this illusionist, appearances can be deceiving.

What's more interesting is the fact that his costume seems to be more or less a completely faithful adaptation of the costume Quentin Beck wears in the comics. It's interesting, because superhero films -- particularly those within the MCU -- tend to reimagine the costumes of their villains. This time around, the outfit is every bit as weird and interesting as its comic book counterpart -- and it works! That's no easy thing to accomplish, considering the fact that Mysterio wears a green suit, a purple cape and tops it all off with a fishbowl helmet.

FLASH THOMPSON, #1 SPIDEY FAN

Past the film's closing title screen, we see Peter and several of his classmates watching Mysterio fight the water elemental on TV. Everybody seems to be in awe of Mysterio except Flash, who seems unimpressed. After all, he's nothing compared to Spider-Man.

When asked why he likes Spider-Man so much, Flash's answer... makes sense. "He protects the neighborhood, he's got a dope suit and I really respect him," Flash states in what seems like a nice moment for Peter... until Flash throws a casual harsh insult at him almost immediately after. Much like the character in the comics, Flash is a huge fan of Spider-Man, but not so much of his alter-ego, which was always fun to read and will undoubtedly be fun to watch once again.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Marissa Tomei, Samuel L. Jackson, Jacob Batalon, Zendaya, Tony Revolori, Cobie Smulders and Jake Gyllenhaal. In theaters July 5.
