Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to hit theaters three days earlier than previously scheduled, Sony Pictures has announced.

Originally scheduled for release on Friday, July 5, Spider-Man: Far From Home will now open on Tuesday, July 2. The move has given Sony Pictures a head start on the 4th of July weekend, where the film is projected to open in the top spot at the box office.

The change in release date should serve to benefit the film's chances at pulling in a larger opening weekend than Spider-Man: Homecoming, which opened to $117 million domestically with a July 7 release date. The short break between it and Avengers: Endgame, a little more than two months, should also serve to benefit Far From Home at the box office.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be the first Phase Four film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will see Peter Parker recruited by Nick Fury to join forces with Mysterio in a fight against the Elementals while on a school trip to Europe.
