WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, now in theaters.
One of the bigger surprises in Spider-Man: Far From Home came when Quentin Beck, aka Mysterio, was revealed to be -- as some comic book fans had suspected -- the real villain of the story. The film's trailers and marketing materials led many to believe he was a hero from an alternate dimension who arrived to help battle creatures known as the Elementals. However, Beck was not only from this Earth but a villainous master of illusion.
While the twist came as a surprise, though, it now appears as if the real truth of Mysterio was unearthed far earlier than we realized.
On Twitter, an eagle-eyed fan spotted Beck standing in the background long before the character "meets" Spider-Man. In Venice, before the Hydro-Man attack, you can see Beck hiding in plain sight, keeping a close eye on Peter Parker while wearing a tourist-inspired disguise.
In case there was any doubt that this man truly is Beck, star Jake Gyllenhaal posted a picture from the set of the Spider-Man sequel wearing that same outfit. "This isnât just a sexy dad outfit. Itâs my favorite look from Spider-Man: FFH," the actor wrote before advising fans to pay close attention throughout the film with the hashtag #wheresbeck.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon and Martin Starr, with Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal.
