WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, in theaters now.
Jon Watts' Far From Home ended with a jaw-dropping post-credits scene that set the stage for Phase 4 of the MCU. After defeating Mysterio and securing the E.D.I.T.H. technology, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) were shockingly revealed to be Skrulls. Far From Home Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are now teasing more Skrulls in Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Speaking about Skrulls hiding in plain sight and if more of the franchise's famous faces could be a shape-shifting alien in disguise, McKenna and Sommers told The Hollywood Reporter, "It's certainly possible. We didn't write anything in specifically and we have not personally planned anything out, but I think it certainly opens up a world of possibilities that is very exciting."
Captain Marvel revealed the normally villainous Skrulls to actually be downtrodden refugees. Unlike their comic book counterparts, the MCU's Skrulls look to be working with Fury (for now) and could even be teeing up the introduction of S.W.O.R.D. Whether Marvel Studios is teasing an adaptation of "Secret Invasion" remains to be seen.
Watts previously confirmed the real Fury was the one at Tony Stark's funeral, but that being said, it doesn't mean others haven't been Skrulls in disguise for much longer.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon and Martin Starr, with Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal.
