Concept artist Jerad S. Marantz has shared a scrapped design for Spider-Man: Far From Home's Earth Elemental - one that bears a striking resemblance to the classic Spider-Man villain Sandman.

In Far From Home, the Earth Elemental is one of the four Elementals created by villainous Mysterio to wreak havoc on the planet, allowing him to swoop in, defeat them and present himself as a hero. The Earth Elemental -- which appears at the beginning of the film -- appears in the final cut as a monstrous mass of sand and rock.

However, the alternate design shared to Marantz's Instagram account features a creature much more humanoid in shape. Furthermore, while the Earth Elemental is still made up of sand and rock, he also has distinguishable features. Namely, a facial structure and haircut that strongly resemble that of Marvel Comics' Sandman.

While there is a group known as the Elementals that originates from the Marvel comic books, the Elementals seen in Far From Home are modeled after the classic Spidey villains Cyclone, Sandman, Molden Man and Hydro-Man, though those names are not used.

Furthermore, Marantz previously shared early designs for both the Water Elemental and the Fire Elemental, which resemble the humanoid, comic book incarations of Hydro-Man and Molen Man, respectively. Of course, the versions of the Elementals that ultimately made the movie are much more monstrous in appearance. Still, this concept art of the Earth Elemental is arguably the most comics-accurate so far, given Sandman's unmistakable look.

In the comics, Sandman is the supervillain alter ego of William Baker, perhaps better known by his alias, Flint Marko. Sandman is one of the very first baddies Spidey ever faced, making his first appearance in 1963's Amazing Spider-Man #4.

While Far From Home ultimately did not use the Sandman's name/backstory for the Earth Elemental, Flint Marko has appeared on the big screen before. Played by Thomas Haden Church, Sandman served as one of the antagonists of director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, which hit theaters back in 2007.
