The real world is inching ever closer to the world of Marvel Comics with the release of a new watch that slings string just like Spider-Man's web-shooters.

The MAGNUS watch from HeroTech was recently given a fancy trailer highlighting all the web-slinging adventures that Spidey fans can get up to in real life. The trailer opens on a series of clips of a person wearing the MAGNUS watch shooting thread from their wrist. The magnetic projectile on the end of the string latches onto the metal surfaces that the wearer shoots it towards, creating the same effect as Spider-Man's sticky web fluid without having to actually be super sticky and gross. The thread can then be reeled back in and fired as many times as the wearer desires.

The MAGNUS watch brings wearers a step closer to becoming Spider-Man, but it's not quite the piece of wonder-tech that lets Peter Parker (and Miles Morales, and Ben Reilly, and sometimes Gwen Stacy, and any other Spider-People) swing through New York. While the thread used in the MAGNUS watch appears to be pretty sturdy, holding up to some light tugging when taut, it's still real thread (HeroTech calls it "spider-wire"), not comic book technology. Attempting to swing around with this piece of wristwear probably won't get you Spidey's airtime -- you're more likely to fall over very quickly.

Even if it's not a literal Spider-Man web-shooter, the MAGNUS watch is a very fun and flashy accessory. It's functional, too. As the trailer demonstrates, when not slinging webs, the MAGNUS watch can also act as a regular old digital watch, telling the time while concealing its own superheroic secret identity. The watch part of the watch is a separate cartridge from the web-slinger with a tiny screen made up of LEDs.

The MAGNUS watch is definitely cool, but fans who want to show their Spider-Man pride without wearing it wherever they go aren't out of luck, either. A steady stream of officially licensed Spider-Man merchandise has been available for decades, but most recently, Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles released a new line of gorgeous figures based on the various Spider-Men of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The MAGNUS watch can be purchased on HeroTech's Etsy store for $349. According to HeroTech, orders placed at time of writing will be filled by October, just in time to have the most impressive Spider-Man costume at the Halloween party.
