As Doctor Strange and Spider-Man come together in Avengers: Infinity War, stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland admit that the two characters should have their own team-up movie starring the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko creations.
Cumberbatch and Holland are newer actors to grace the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it hasn't stopped them becoming a major part of the film franchise and have leading roles in Infinity War. When Thanos launches his attack on Earth and the action heads to New York, Strange and Spider-Man will join forces with the likes of Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man and Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner.
Speaking to Screen Rant, both actors revealed their hopes for a team up movie somewhere in Phase 4. When asked if they would like to come together again in a future movie, Cumberbatch replied "definitely," followed by Holland's "100%." Cumberbatch then gave his own pitch for how it could happen.
"And even if it is, you know, doing a coffee run for one another or just like hanging out or we’ll go play ball in the park or it’s doing every day, start picking up our laundry. I would really like that to be expanded to something really fantastic."
Keen not to be outdone, Holland shared his own idea for what could bring them together again.
"I came up with an idea the other day that will never happen. Peter Parker is at school, has a mad, mad headache, rings up someone and says 'I just really need your help. It’s really important.' And then a voice says 'OK,' and then he goes over to your house and you're dressed up as Doctor Strange and you’re ready to do business. And I’m like, 'I have a headache. Do you know what this is?' And I, because you’re a brain surgeon so you think I need you to like save the world again, but really I just need your doctor expertise I just need you to be a doctor."
Fans already know that a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming is somewhere on the MCU's future slate, but there is still no news on when/if Doctor Strange 2 could come to theaters. The jury is out on whether Doctor Strange needs a sequel, and starring alongside Spider-Man could be one way around that conundrum. The Homecoming sequel is set as the first movie to film after Avengers 4, so just as Tony Stark had a supporting role in Homecoming and Strange in Thor: Ragnarok, Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme could cameo in the next Spider-Man adventure.
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Bettany, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Tom Hiddleston and Josh Brolin, among others.
