Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to be a pivotal film in Marvel Studios' continuity, to say the very least. After all, the film has the task of finishing up the Marvel Cinematic Universe's third phase and setting the stage for the future.

With Avengers: Endgame and Far From Home's trailer potentially opening the door to the multiverse and the success of Sony's Spider-Man projects possibly informing Marvel Studios' creative decisions going forward, there has been a lot of speculation regarding who might pop up in Far From Home.

However, the film's director Jon Watts, who previously helmed 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming, has revealed which characters fans should not expect to see in the sophomore entry of Marvel Studios' Spider-Man franchise.

Given Far From Home's change of scenery from streets of New York City to those of Europe, it only stands to reason that some characters aren't going to make the trip.

For instance, Watts confirmed that, as it currently stands, the film does not include Miles Morales, whose existence in the MCU was alluded to in Homecoming.

"There is no Miles in this film, or at least not yet," Watts told Fandango. "But who knows... we edit these films down to the last second, so you never know."

Since Homecoming's release in 2017, the character of Miles Morales achieved a significant amount of cinematic success thanks to Sony's Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, while Donald Glover did appear in Homecoming as Miles' uncle Aaron Davis/Prowler, it seems that the MCU isn't ready to properly introduce Miles just yet.

Watts also confirmed that Michael Keaton and Laura Harrier would not be returning for Far From Home, with Harrier's apparent non-involvement contradicting an earlier report. In Homecoming, Keaton played Adrian Toomes/Vulture, the film's main antagonist. Meanwhile, Harrier played Liz Toomes, Vulture's daughter and Peter Parker's main love interest in the first film.

Moreover, with Adrian and Liz Toomes also being absent from Far From Home, it appears that the plot thread of Adrian swearing vengeance on Spidey for exposing his criminal actions and breaking up his family is being kept on the back-burner for the time being.

Watts did not mention if Far From Home would feature Glover reprising his role as Aaron Davis or if Michael Mando would make another appearance as Mac Gargan, who is currently incarcerated alongside Vulture and is better known to comics fans as the Scorpion. Given Miles and the Vulture's respective absences, both seem unlikely at this point.

Opening July 2, director Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Zendaya, Cobie Smulders, Jon Favreau, JB Smoove, Jacob Batalon and Martin Starr, with Marisa Tomei and Jake Gyllenhaal. Avengers: Endgame is currently in theaters.
