Spider-Man, Death Note, Captain America: Jan 14th Comic Reel

As we reported, Sony revealed the first image of star Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man yesterday:

Rick Marshall at MTV News analyzed the photo and notes the metal disks on Spidey's gloves. "Could the new films be veering back to mechanical web-shooters, or are the discs just a new element that facilitates Spidey's organic web-shooting abilities?" he asks. It's a fair question. Having watched Garfield in "The Social Network" last night, I have to say he is a great choice for the part. He's thin, he looks like a little boy, and he can play all of Peter's insecurities quite well.

Release date: May 28th, 2012

Now this is pretty exciting. We reported yesterday that Warner Bros has hired Shane Black to direct an adaptation of the manga series "Death Note." Black wrote "Lethal Weapon," "The Monster Squad," and directed the excellent "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." Having him on board means it won't be your typical American adaptation.

Release date: TBA

Various sites, including our pals at Spinoff Online, have posted this image from Entertainment Weekly, which reveals star Chris Evans in full costume:

I like it. It's a nice blend of what a realistic costume has to be crossed with the wild aesthetic and color palette of the original character design. The helmet/mask is particularly good at mixing the various looks of Cap's headgear. It even has wings painted on it! Also, is that some early Stark technology behind him?

Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011

Jennifer Lawrence, unofficial spokesperson for the film, talks with MTV News about turning blue and maybe returning to the character, amongst other things:

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

Turkish site Kahramanlarsinemada.com (via Comic Book Movie) reports Nicholas Cage has landed in Turkey to film the final scenes of the sequel/soft reboot. Here's a photo from his arrival:

Heat Vision reports director David O. Russel is set helm "2 Guns," based on the Boom! Studios comic. The story involves "a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who are unwittingly investigating each other and who steal mob money for the good guys. They realize later that the mob actually got them to steal $50 million from the CIA." Sounds like the write kind of project for the director of "Three Kings."

Release date: TBA

According to Superhero Hype, the public opening of the "Spider-Man" musical has been delayed again. The producers cite needing more time to "to allow for more time to fine-tune aspects of the show, including the new ending." Considering the reviews, that's probably a good idea.

Opens: March 15th, 2011 ... maybe

Despite failing to find a network, David E. Kelley tells The Hollywood Reporter the show will still happen. "I think the likelihood is we'll see it next year," he says. "I'm being optimistic but I don't think I'm being unrealistic." His plan includes bring the project back to NBC following once all the new executives are in place there.

Entertainment Weekly reports actress Lauren Ambrose has joined the cast as Jilly Kitzinger, a "sweet-talking PR genius with a heart of stone who's just cornered the most important client of her career ... and maybe of all time." This sort of character is actually one that recurs in the writing of "Torchwood" creator Russell T. Davies. Depending on her actions, Jilly could be a hero or lunch for whatever alien menace is behind everything.

Airdate: 2011

Kryptonsite has an image gallery for the upcoming episode "Collateral" which features the return of Alison Mack as Chloe Sullivan:

After all that traveling, it'll be nice to get a Milky Way (yes, it's a drink) and cue up some Lucky Soul because it's the weekend. I'll probably hunker down with some documentaries and play some board games with friends. What? It can't be exciting jet-setting every weekend. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of the week ahead.
