Doctor Who is releasing three new annual comics with Spider-Man writer Dan Slott.

According to a press release, Slott -- the Eisner-award winning writer known most for his work on Spider-Man -- will be helming three comic book one-shots for Titans Comics. The story will focus on the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and his companion Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), with Jones acting as its narrator, recounting tales of the Doctor's exploits while she is help captive by the Pyromeths. Slott promises classic and new Doctor Who stories to delight readers, being that he is a massive fan himself.

Doctor Who's Tenth Doctor and Martha Jones are featured in Dan Slott's upcoming annual issues.

"One of the worst secrets in comics is that I am one of the world's biggest Whovians!" Slott said in the press release. "I've been regularly watching Doctor Who since the Tom Baker years, and I am deeply devoted to every incarnation of the show!" Tom Baker portrayed the Fourth Doctor, and like Tennant did during actor Matt Smith's run as the Eleventh Doctor, returned for "The Day of the Doctor," a special episode celebrating the series' 50th anniversary.

Slott continued to show his excitement at stepping into the literary world of the franchise, exclaiming, "I've been waiting to write stories for the Doctor my whole life! And I couldn't be happier than getting a chance to tell an all-new tale of the Tenth Doctor -- and to be doing this with [Christopher Jones] and all the fine folks at TITAN! Allons-Y!" The saying "Allons-Y" was the frequently-used exclamation of the Tenth Doctor, who Tennant portrayed for five years across three seasons.

Slott is joined by Jones as artist, who has previously worked on Doctor Who: The Seventh Doctor - Operation Volcano and Doctor Who: The Third Doctor - Heralds of Destruction, both for Titan. The imprint's editors and publishers are thrilled Slott is onboard as well, with Doctor Who Comics Editor Jake Devine saying, "I'm very excited to be working on this project with Dan -- he's a huge Who fan, and it shows. This Doctor Who special exudes all of Dan's creativity and love of storytelling, with a few surprises along the way!"

The first of Slott and Jones' three annual issues will be Doctor Who: Special 2022, with the one-shot set to release in comic shops and digitally in the United Kingdom and Europe sometime in April 2022. For fans unfamiliar with Tennant and Agyeman's time on the series, Doctor Who Seasons 1 through 12 are available to stream now on HBO Max, featuring the adventures of the Ninth (Christopher Eccelston) up until the Thirteenth Doctor, currently played by Jodie Whittaker.
