Two major characters just stepped back into Spider-Man’s world, and the implications of their meeting could change the Parker family history once again.

In the latest issue of Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker’s super-spy sister, Teresa Parker, returned and set her sights on the Chameleon. After she fights her way into the prison where the villain is being held, the Chameleon drops a revelation that sparks a new Parker family mystery and making her doubt the very proposition of her existence.

Chameleon talks to Teresa Parker in Spider-Man.

Chameleon is one of Spider-Man’s oldest villains, first appearing in Amazing Spider-Man #1 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. In that issue, he impersonated Spider-Man in an effort to ruin his reputation. He didn’t stop at impersonations, though. Many years later, Chameleon helped create Life Model Decoys of Peter Parker’s parents. He sent the LMDs back into Peter’s life. When they died, it shattered the wall-crawler to have to experience the loss of his parents for a second time.

Teresa Parker debuted in Mark Waid and James Robinson's Amazing Spider-Man: Family Business #1 as a world-class superspy who was unaware of her relationship with Peter for the majority of her life. Teresa first crossed paths with the Chameleon as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., with him becoming a major nemesis for her in Spencer and Francesco Manna's Amazing Spider-Man #29, when the villain killed her partner David Albright. However, when Teresa confronts an imprisoned Chameleon in the latest issue, there appears to be much more to the story.

Spider-Man Chameleon Conspiracy

In a tense conversation, the Chameleon revealed that it wasn't David's death that brought Teresa to his doorstep, but rather a need for information. As Teresa tearfully proclaims her identity as a true member of the Parker family, the Chameleon coyly implies that the reason she can't take vengeance on him may be because she herself is a duplicate in much the same way that her "parents" were, sent to once again infiltrate Peter Parker's life.

While this potential revelation may be devastating for Teresa, it would be a difficult pill for Peter to swallow as well if it indeed turns out that Teresa is really not his sister. This has the potential to once again destroy Spider-Man from the inside out, and may signal that one of his oldest enemies still has a few nefarious tricks left up his sleeve.
