Within Marvel Comics, Iceman -- one of the founding members of the X-Men -- rarely displays the full extent of his power. Despite being an Omega-level mutant, Bobby Drake typically keeps his freezing abilities in check. However, Iceman has a lot more power than many fans might expect. There have been a few times in the comics that Iceman proved to be one of the most powerful mutants in the world. While it is not canon with the comics, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends showed that, in its world, Iceman also could have been the most dangerous mutant alive.

The version of Iceman featured in the '80s cartoon has Bobby Drake's powers manifesting when he was a baby. Within the comics, mutant toddlers are not unheard of: Nightcrawler was born with his appearance and Franklin Richards developed his powers as a baby. However, as shown in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends Episode 14, "The Origin of Ice-Man," Bobby Drake's family had to shelter him because his powers manifested as a baby.

Ice-Man as a baby in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends

As an infant, Bobby froze his entire room. He was also unable to control his powers when he was a teenager, as his powers turned the room in which he was dancing with a girl into a veritable igloo. Later at another party, he could not stop his powers when he was trying to make ice. Bobby couldn't control his powers as a teenager, and since he was freezing everything in his room as a baby, he could have easily caused a worldwide disaster with just one temper tantrum as a small baby.

In Astonishing X-Men Vol. 3 #65 by Marjorie Liu, Gabriel Hernandez Walta, Cris Peter, and Joe Caramagna, Iceman turned evil. Bobby cut loose in this evil state and used his powers to their full extent, even blanketing New York in snow and ice. There is a chance that, if he wasn't stopped, he could have sent the entire planet into a new ice age. Imagine if Bobby was a baby and was out with his parents and wanted to play or go somewhere and his parents had to put their foot down and tell him no. As with many kids, especially toddlers, there are major tantrums thrown. Someone with the unlimited power potential Iceman proved he had in the comics could have devastated the entire city with one overblown fit. He could have buried the entire city in ice before his parents could calm him down.

Even more recently, in Marauders #8 by Gerry Duggan, Stefano Caselli, Edgar Delgado, VC's Cory Petit & Tom Muller, Iceman showed that even as a good guy, he was powerful enough to mess people up when they toyed with his emotions. In that issue, the X-Men found Kate Pryde dead, and Iceman said that he still lived by the law of "an eye for an eye," and he froze a man's arm and then shattered it into pieces. When pushed to the limit, Iceman is one of the most dangerous mutants in existence.

Imagine what he could have done as a baby in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends if he lost control. What if he suffered a minor injury as a baby? Or, even worse, imagine if he thought his mom or dad was hurt or in danger? Without the ability to control his own emotions, which children are not equipped to do, he never would have been able to control his powers. One moment of fear could cause a toddler Bobby to lash out and, as he proved in Marauders, maim a person or worse. There is a reason most mutants don't get their powers until adolescence, when they can properly undertake training. A baby with these powers could be cataclysmic to the entire world and everyone around them in an instant.
