WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #75, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Since June, Marvel Comics has been teasing Amazing Spider-Man's new "Beyond" arc, making clear Ben Reilly would take over for Peter Parker when the hero ended up gravely injured. Now, Amazing Spider-Man #75, by Zeb Wells, Patrick Gleason, Marcio Menyz and VC's Joe Caramagna and the issue reveals that Peter gets hurt after a brutal battle with the U-Foes.

Early on in Amazing Spider-Man #75, Peter encounters Ben, his resurrected clone. However, soon, Peter learns that Ben is working with the Beyond Corporation, a powerful group that's arming the young clone with a ton of powerful equipment. Ben then reveals the Beyond Corporation actually holds the rights to Spider-Man, and that he'll be swinging around New York regardless of if Peter wants him to or not.

Spider-Man U-Foes Attack

Soon, Peter responds to an attack from the U-Foes -- Simon Utrecht/Vector, Ann Darnell/Vapor, Jimmy Darnell/X-Ray and Michael Steel/Ironclad -- at Empire State University. The group, who were created by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema in 1980's Incredible Hulk #254 and are essentially a dark version of the Fantastic Four, are looking for some undisclosed object.

As Peter soon discovers, though, Ben is already at the scene thanks to a team who monitors the city and deploys him where necessary. Together, the two Spider-Men fight against the U-Foes, but eventually, X-Ray lights some of Vapor's gas on fire. This causes an explosion.

Spider-Man U-Foes Injury

The explosion doesn't affect Ben, whose new suit protects him. Peter, though, ends up inhaling the noxious gas. As the issue ends, the U-Foes flee the scene and Peter passes out while Ben tells him to hold on.

With Peter out of commission, Ben is officially going to take over for the original version of himself. Eventually, Peter will suit up again as Spider-Man, especially since solicitations for future issues have made clear the hero isn't going to die as a result of his injuries. But in the meantime, Amazing Spider-Man #75 proves Ben has a ton to learn about being a hero. When he took over for Peter in the '90s, Ben was inexperienced and often reckless, which led to a ton of problems. His failure to see Peter's suit couldn't protect him from the same attack he himself survived directly led to the hero's injuries. So going forward, Ben is going to have to really learn how to use his great power responsibly.
