The new Spider-Man Ben Reilly has his work cut out for him as he comes face-to-face with two foes, both of whom happen to be starring in upcoming Spider-Verse movie projects -- Morbius the vampire and Kraven the hunter.
Amazing Spider-Man #78, written by Kelly Thompson with art by Sara Pichelli, sees Ben tasked to complete a deadly mission that results in him suffering defeat at the hands of Morbius. The clone of Peter Parker then has to grapple with a hallucinatory trap instigated by Kraven in Issues 79 and 80, both scripted by Cody Ziglar and illustrated by Michael Dowling.
Both Morbius and Kraven are receiving feature films in Sony's universe of properties loosely connected with Spider-Man. Starring Jared Leto as the titular vampire, Morbius was delayed multiple times due to the coronavirus pandemic and is currently set for a release date of Jan. 28, 2022. Meanwhile, Aaron Taylor-Johnson will assume the role of Spidey's hunt-obsessed nemesis in Kraven the Hunter, scheduled for a Jan. 13, 2023 release.
"These adventures of Spider-Man will be like none that came before, offering a fresh take on the Spider-Man mythos and an exciting development for Ben Reilly’s super hero legacy," a Marvel press release previewing the upcoming three issues teased.
Sponsored for currently unexplained reasons by the Beyond Corporation, a group of sinister multiversal beings living on the borders of reality, Ben Reilly steps up as the premiere web-slinger of New York City after Peter Parker is hospitalized and put on life support machines in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #75, which will hit comic shops on Oct. 6. Aside from Morbius and Kraven, Marvel teased that the former Scarlet Spider will also tango with Black Cat and carry out the dying request of Doctor Strange.
Amazing Spider-Man Issues 78-80 will be on sale throughout the month of November, on Nov. 3, Nov. 17 and Nov. 24.
