Ben Reilly, the clone of Spider-Man and the former Scarlet Spider, is currently set to replace Parker in the upcoming Beyond storyline. Ben has taken on such responsibility before, serving as Spider-Man for a time and even taking part in the events of Marvel Vs. DC, where he found a way to embarrass himself in his personal life. At one point, Spider-Man tried to ask out Lois Lane during the event -- only to be shot down hard.

The events of Marvel Vs. DC by Ron Marz, Peter David, Dan Jurgens, and Claudio Castelleni brought the heroes and villains of both superhero universes together when the avatars of their separate continuities went to war. While champions from both universes were chosen for duels that would determine which reality was eradicated, elements of both worlds were merged together. Tim Drake found romance with Jubilee, Batman faced off against Bullseye, and the staff of the Daily Bugle and the Daily Planet were combined.

J. Jonah Jameson was instated as the Editor-in-Chief of the paper, while Wilson Fisk became its owner. Clark Kent and Lois Lane remained major members of the reporting staff, but Jimmy Olsen was replaced by Ben Reilly, who was then operating as Spider-Man. Ben's photos impressed Clark, and the two seemed to hit it off. During the ensuing chaos of the event, however, Ben became attracted to Lois while Clark was away serving as Superman.

When Lois was attacked by a team-up of the Marvel and DC incarnations of Scarecrow, Ben leaped to her aid and protected her, prompting a nearby Superman to wonder if he should be jealous. Lois was thankful for his efforts but internally considered him poorly against her true love interest. Ben, meanwhile, misread her signals and believed she was just as attracted to him as he was to her. Ben flirted with Lois and asked her out before she revealed that she was engaged to Clark -- who promptly appeared to further Ben's embarrassment.

While it's a perfect "Parker Luck" moment for Ben, it's also a reminder that no matter who tries to win her hand, Lois only has eyes for the Man of Steel -- although she does at one point admit to herself that she doesn't mind watching Spider-Man in action. Even at the possible end of the world, Superman leaves the battle so he can be with Lois just in case, while Ben instead gets a surprisingly quiet moment with J. Jonah Jameson, where the loudmouth editor apologizes for his years of mistreatment.

It's a perfect beat for everyone involved, and even when reality is restored it's been suggested that the events of Marvel Vs. DC are considered canon, meaning that one of Ben Reilly's most embarrassing moments are still remembered by all the parties involved.
