"Spider-Man" Animated Movie Finds a Director

"Puss in Boots" and "The Little Prince" scribe Bob Persichetti has been tapped to direct Sony Pictures Animation's "Spider-Man" animated movie.

According to Variety, the project is still moving forward with the original script by "The LEGO Movie's" Phil Lord. Longtime Spidey producers Avi Arad and Amy Pascal are overseeing the project.

The film will reportedly "co-exist" with live-action Spidey film projects, but still "...exist independently of the projects in the live-action Spider-Man universe, all of which are continuing."

Spider-Man's animated feature film debut will bow on December 21, 2018, roughly a year and a half after the scheduled release date of Sony and Marvel's live-action Spidey film, "Spider-Man: Homecoming," on July 28, 2017.
