Star of The Amazing Spider-Man Andrew Garfield replied to a fan-casting of him as Joker for Robert Pattinson's The Batman.

In a video released by GQ on YouTube in which Garfield read and replied to remarks from his fans on the internet, the actor stated that he "wouldn't go near [playing Joker]," in response a tweet from user @GhengisKhan17. Garfield elaborated, "Sweet of you to think that it's possible. But I don't think I could ever do it." He mentioned notable performances by Heath Ledger, who portrayed Joker in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, Jack Nicholson, who played the same character in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman and Joaquin Phoenix, the star of 2019's Joker.

Garfield, who stars in several renowned films and television shows such as The Amazing Spider-ManThe Social NetworkDoctor Who, Hacksaw Ridge and Netflix's new musical Tick, Tick... Boom!has been facing rumors regarding his involvement in the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home film. "You guys are really good at your jobs but I'm better at mine!" he said regarding the rumors. "Listen, I am not in the film, I love Spider-Man, I always have. I was so happy to have played the part and I'm so excited to see what they do with the third one just like you guys are."

The actor also commented on Tom Holland's Spider-Man, lauding what Marvel has done with the character. "It's the only superhero where he's covered head to toe, you don't see skin color, you don't see, sexual orientation you don't see any of those things," Garfield said. "I think that's why he's probably the most beloved superhero, universally throughout every culture, throughout every race. When my tenure was done and Tom Holland's tenure started… I was very happy and very excited."

The upcoming Batman film, titled The Batman, will not be a part of the DC Extended Universe, and it is still unknown whether Joker will be a part of the film. Todd Phillips, the director for 2019's Joker, stated that Phoenix's Joker will not appear in The Batman, which Pattinson later confirmed, although the inclusion of a different Joker in the film or its potential prequels and sequels is still a possibility.

Tick, Tick... Boom! is Garfield's latest film, centered around a struggling theater composer who battles personal crises as his 30th birthday draws near. The film is an adaptation of the semi-autobiographical 1990 stage musical by playwright Jonathan Larson.
