Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse revealed who the villain will be ahead of the next two entries in the film series.

The main antagonist in the upcoming Spider-Verse movie is set to be The Spot, who will be voiced by Jason Schwartzman, but according to Total Film, the villain has a bigger role to play. "The Spot is an interesting villain because he seems like a joke, but when you really look at his powers, there’s incredible potential," said director Kemp Powers. "His ability to open portals across dimensions sets him up perfectly for the Spider-Verse," continued the filmmaker, confirming the character's role as the villain of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. "He’s the villain of the next two films… and let’s just say that The Spot and Miles are connected in surprising ways."

The Spot will therefore play a large part in the way the film pans out but, as yet, there has been little revealed about what kind of threat he will pose. Instead, an early synopsis for Across The Spider-Verse claimed that Morales will have to face off against "a team of Spider-People," duking it out with plenty of supposedly friendly and unfamiliar faces.

Spider-Man Vs. The Spider-People

As for the various Spideys fans can expect, there will be a mix of original and comics-accurate variants. These consist of the returning Spider-Man 2099/Miguel O'Hara (Oscar Isaac) and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), as well as some fresh faces like Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya) and Scarlet Spider. Across The Spider-Verse will also feature Spider-Gwen, who is once more voiced by Hailee Steinfeld. When Gwen appears in the film, specifically in her world of Earth-65, she is set to be animated in a "watercolour-wash style" that will be similar in styling to "the covers of her comic books."

The first film in the series, Into The Spider-Verse, was released to critical acclaim back in 2018. Starring Shameik Moore as Morales, it focused on his character joining up with other Spider-People from across the multiverse to stop Kingpin from ripping a hole in reality. It claimed an Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film and also picked up a Golden Globe.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is set to hit theaters on June 2, 2023.
