Merch for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse revealed a new look for Spider-Woman, who has been re-imagined as a cyborg behemoth alongside Spider-Punk.
Reddit user u/SuperMTitan compiled three puzzle sets based on Sony Pictures' upcoming Into the Spider-Verse sequel. The first puzzle shows a monstrous Cyborg Spider-Woman sprinting forward with Hobie Brown/Spider-Punk at her side. Another puzzle set featured Miles Morales as Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy's Ghost Spider, while a third set featured Spider-Man 2099 and Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider.
An early look at a Hasbro action figure for Cyborg Spider-Woman surfaced online in August, but the puzzle shows the character and her hulking armor in motion. The image shows how Cyborg Spider-Woman's scrap armor and chains combine to make the iconic spider symbol across her chest. Similar to the action figure, her right hand is replaced with a gigantic machine gun which easily dwarfs the nearby Spider-Punk. When comparing the images of the three puzzles, the Cyborg-Spider Woman/Spider-Punk image is the only one to have a geometric background whereas the other two are set in cities. The hexagon design featured in the background is also featured in the packaging for the Cyborg Spider-Woman action figure.
Cyborg Spider-Woman & Spider-Punk Swing Into Action
Spider-Woman's classic incarnation, Jessica Drew, was featured in Spider-Verse's 15-minute trailer which was privately screened at CinemaCon 2022. That version of Spider-Woman was pregnant and reportedly helped Spider-Man 2099 Miguel O'Hara (Oscar Isaac) cross into Gwen Stacy's dimension to save her from the Vulture. At the time of writing, it is unclear how Cyborg Spider-Woman is connected to the other incarnations of the hero that will appear in the film.
Beyond Spider-Punk, Cyborg Spider-Woman will be featured alongside numerous other characters set to appear in Across the Spider-Verse. As featured in one of the three puzzles, the film will also feature Spider-Man 2099 and Ben Reilly, the Scarlet Spider, as well as Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy. Ben Reilly's design was leaked in August after images of a special edition of the board game Trouble appeared online, for which the card pieces showed off a comics-accurate design for the Spider-Clone, including his blue hoodie. The game, like the Cyborg Spider-Woman action figure, is manufactured by Hasbro. The image used of Reilly in the puzzle is the same image used on the card piece.
Issa Rae is set to play Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman in Across the Spider-Verse, although no casting announcements regarding her cyborg counterpart have been made. Along with Isaac as Spider-Man 2099, Rae joins a returning cast consisting of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker in both Across the Spider-Verse Parts 1 and Part 2.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part 1 is premiering in theaters June 2, 2023.
