Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will echo the comics and feature a pregnant Spider-Woman saving the day.

As reported by The Wrap, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller previewed the first 15 minutes of the much-anticipated sequel at CinemaCon 2022. The opening scene focuses on Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman of Earth-65 as she faces the difficulties of leading a double life while also fighting a dimensionally displaced version of the classic Spider-Man villain the Vulture. She's saved by two other interdimensional web-slingers: Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman of Earth-404, who appears to be pregnant.

The hero joined the cast of Across the Spider-Verse in June 2021, with Insecure creator and star Issa Rae voicing Spider-Woman. The film's version of Jessica Drew appears to be taking its cues from the more recent volume of Spider-Woman by Dennis Hopeless and Javier Rodriguez, where the titular heroine shifts her focus to helping ordinary civilians as a private investigator while also pregnant. She eventually gives birth to a boy, Gerry Drew, who also inherits her fantastic spider powers.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was originally set to release in April 2022 before being delayed to October of the same year due to COVID-19, then again to June 2023. After the most recent announcement, Miller assured fans that the Spider-Verse delay will give the creative team "more time to make it great." He also hyped up the film during the CinemaCon presentation, saying, "The sequel is way, way bigger than the last one. It’s the largest crew of an animated movie ever." Miller added that Spider-Verse 2 will feature 240 characters, six times the cast of 40 from Into the Spider-Verse.

Lord and Miller have also discussed the possibility of seeing Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy and the rest of the Spider-Verse heroes join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "The Multiverse is big and wide," Miller said. "And all things grow... Why would you think a Multiverse, in which many things are possible, that [those things are] not related?" Lord then joked, "Everything's possible except for this one thing that everyone wants." The MCU has already hinted at Miles' story in Spider-Man: Homecoming with the introduction of his uncle, Aaron Davis, played by Donald Glover. Aaron, in his role as the high-tech thief the Prowler, was a prominent character in Into the Spider-Verse, voiced by Mahershahla Ali.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into the theaters on June 2, 2023. Its sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is set to release in March 2024.
