The teaser trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) showed that Oscar Isaac's Spider-Man 2099 would be returning, but the actor had one condition for reprising the role. When asked about Isaac's take on Miguel O'Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 in an Entertainment Weekly Q&A on Twitter, co-writers and producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller revealed his return came with a single requirement. "Oscar had one condition of taking the gig: 'Don't make me boring.' He's made a really complex character out of Miguel O'Hara, and he's definitely not boring."RELATED: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Sequel Title Indicates A Third Film

Isaac's version of the character first appeared during the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. O'Hara made a multiversal jump to Earth-67, where he proceeded to act out the classic Spider-Men pointing meme with the Peter Parker of the 1967 Spider-Man TV show. The first look footage shows Spider-Man 2099 hopping between universes again, this time bringing him into some kind of struggle with Miles Morales.

The movie is set to feature multiple variants of Spider-Man, including new reported additions such as Issa Rae as Spider-Woman. The footage also confirmed the return of Shameik Moore's Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld's Gwen Stacy. As part of their talk with Entertainment Weekly, the writers stated that "Miles will reunite with some old friends and meet…. a lot of new ones." Just how many characters will be featured in the upcoming sequels is unknown, especially since it has been confirmed that a third Spider-Verse installment is already in development.

O'Hara first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #365 before his solo series Spider-Man 2099 began in 1992. His character protects a future version of New York known as Nueva York, which could be one of the locations he transports to with Miles during the trailer. The first film involved various heroes being stripped from their respective dimensions to Miles' universe, but the sequel's synopsis turns the tables by sending Miles into the Multiverse alongside Spider allies. The writers discussed the inclusion of the Multiverse, saying, "Well we're just getting started. In the first look you get just a taste of what we're going for. Every dimension looks and feels radically different from all the others. They all look like they were drawn by a different artist."

Isaac will be playing another Marvel superhero in the Disney+ series Moon Knight.  The actor has referred to Moon Knight as the biggest challenge of his career and was committed to bringing his own ideas to the show. "Speaking with Kevin [Feige], I told him I'm going to come in with these big ideas, and if you don't like them, that's fair," he explained.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) arrives in theaters on Oct. 7, 2022.
