When the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home took the Internet by storm earlier this week, it reawakened the dream of a Marvel project that never came to pass: a live-action Spider-Man crossover featuring Peter Porker, AKA Spider-Ham, with Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller at the helm.Miller recently reposted a story on Twitter about his work alongside Lord on 2018's Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. In 2020, a fan asked Miller about connections between their animated Spider-Man film and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man star, Tom Holland. In response, he revealed that he and Lord pitched an ambitious concept to Sony, a project that would feature Peter Porker, better known as Spider-Ham, slinging webs alongside all three of the recent big-screen Spider-Men: Holland, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. While Sony apparently shot down the idea, calling it "too soon" for such a crossover, the recent No Way Home trailer featured Alfred Molena reprising his role as Doc Ock from 2004's Spider-Man 2. Miller retweeted his story, simply saying, "Feels like it's no longer 'too soon.'"RELATED: The Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer's Black Suit Isn't Venom - It's Worse

Marvel has already confirmed that the third MCU Spider-Man film will explore the multiverse to combine elements from all three major live-action Spider-Man adaptations. In addition to Molina's return as Doc Ock, No Way Home will also bring back Jamie Foxx's Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Various rumors have also suggested Maguire and Garfield will also appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While Sony allegedly thought the crossover was too ambitious when pitched by Miller and Lord, fan excitement for No Way Home has become immeasurable. The movie's first trailer is now the most-watched trailer of all time, having racked up over 350 million views in just 24 hours. As Miller said, based on fan excitement, the epic Spider-Man crossover doesn't seem to be arriving "too soon" at all.

Spider-Ham first appeared in 1983 as a parodical version of Spider-Man reimagined as an anthropomorphic pig. The character has appeared throughout the years in various crossover comics and even a few solo runs, mostly for laughs. Film audiences met the character when he played a prominent role in Into The Spider-Verse, voiced by comedian John Mulaney. While Miller and Lord may have missed their shot to throw Peter Porker into the No Way Home mix, the duo will get a second go at the animated Spider-Verse with a sequel aiming to release in late 2022. With interest in Spider-Man crossovers at an all-time high, maybe Holland, Garfield and Maguire could swing by.

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives Dec. 17, only in theaters.
