Spider-Man: No Way Home features some of the strongest spells seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Doctor Strange altering the memories of the entire population of Earth. Yet with the recent release of the No Way Home screenplay, fans have noticed a possible weakness in Strange's final spell with huge implications for Spider-Man's future.

After wanting the world to forget he's Spider-Man, Peter Parker asks Doctor Strange to perform a mind-wiping spell. But upon realizing he doesn't want his friends and family to forget, he messes with the spell casting and ruins it. With the altered spell accidentally bringing over villains from across the multiverse, Peter sees it as his duty to help send each one back to their timeline. But with multiple villains making their way through, Spider-Man must stop them by making one last sacrifice: having Doctor Strange wipe Peter Parker from everyone's mind.

Already grieving from the loss of Tony Stark and Aunt May, this spell makes Peter's life all the more tragic. As a final heartbreak, he returns to the diner where MJ works, but she and Ned no longer recognize him. After realizing that they finally got accepted into MIT, Peter believes it's best to leave them be and decides not to reintroduce himself. However, some fans have questioned the logistics of this spell, as much of it is left ambiguous.

With Ned and MJ having known Peter for many years, it's unclear whether their memories are altered or missing altogether, as huge parts of their lives could now be missing from their heads. And the same goes for all videos, photos and records of Peter, as it's unclear if any of them still exist. Not having any evidence of existing could put him in a lot of legal trouble, but if those records were still around, it would surely confuse people affected by the spell. But either way, the ending of No Way Home appears to set the spell in stone.

However, with the recent release of No Way Home's final screenplay, user Tesgoul from Reddit has pointed out a line that suggests a possible weakness in the spell. When Peter goes to meet MJ for the last time, they have a conversation about MIT and he finishes her sentence about feeling disappointed. At this moment, the script reads, "A flicker of deja vu on her face, then, recovering."

While this could be a moment to give audiences a final piece of hope, the wording definitely sounds like there's something deep down that MJ remembers. Simply talking to Peter may not bring her memories back, but the line suggests that they haven't been wiped completely and that Peter Parker still exists somewhere in her mind. If this is the case, it means there's still a chance that MJ and Ned's memories could be recovered.

With a whole new Spider-Man trilogy being heavily rumored after No Way Home, there's a lot of speculation about what comes next for the character. It would be a grim end for Tom Holland's version of Spidey to live out his days with his friends all gone, so seeing them return would not be surprising. Even so, it's unknown whether he could convince Doctor Strange to reverse his spell or if he'll have to re-friend everyone the natural way.
