Marisa Tomei is well known to Marvel Cinematic Universe fans for playing the role of Peter Parker's Aunt May. Now, the actor has teased what fans can expect from her character in the upcoming Spider-Man 3.

"Well, I've had her - [director] Jon Watts and I always talked about her being a community organizer," Tomei told Screen Rant. "And hopefully that track will expand and be part of this one, as well."

Tomei's portrayal of Aunt May is in many ways a departure from past iterations of the character. Most notably, Tomei plays a much younger version of May and describes her relationship with Peter as closer to that of a big sister with her little brother rather than a mother with her young son. By the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming, May even discovers Peter's secret identity as Spider-Man, and in Far From Home, she's actively supporting and encouraging him in pursuing his superhero career.

With the next Spider-Man movie, Tomei clearly hopes to have May come into her own as a dynamic person and not be seen only as Peter's caretaker. We've already seen glimpses of this at the beginning of Far From Home when May organizes a local community event and arranges for Peter to make an appearance as Spider-Man.

Starring Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei and Zendaya, the third, yet-to-be-titled MCU Spider-Man film arrives in theaters Nov. 5, 2021.
