In a now-deleted Instagram post, actor Jamie Foxx teased the differences between his version of Max Dillon/Electro in 2014's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and his upcoming portrayal in Marvel Studios' untitled third Spider-Man film.

"Tell Spidey let's run it back!" Foxx wrote on Instagram along with an image featuring his version of Electro in the sky over New York City as three different Spider-Men look on. "Super excited to be part of the new Marvel Spider-Man new installment [sic]. Can't wait for y'all to check out the new one." Foxx went onto say that this new version of Electro "won't be blue," but will be "badass."

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Foxx's Max Dillion was portrayed as an electrical engineer and Spider-Man fan who would later gain electrical superpowers. After getting said powers, his skin took on a blue tint in an apparent nod to Electro's appearance in Marvel's Ultimate Universe (Earth-1610), which was significantly different to the character's original Earth-616 look. Electro was one of The Amazing Spider-Man 2's main villains alongside Dane DeHaan's Harry Osborn/Green Goblin. Meanwhile, it isn't clear exactly how Electro's character will change for Marvel Studios' Spider-Man 3, as major plot details have yet to be released.

Previously, star Tom Holland said that filming on Spider-Man 3 would be finished by the end of February 2021, though this hasn't been confirmed by Marvel Studios. Additionally, it hasn't been revealed whether Electro will be the film's only villain.
