A new report claims both Andrew Garfield and Kirsten Dunst will be reprising their past Marvel roles in the upcoming Spider-Man 3.

Collider is reporting that a deal has been struck with both Garfield and Dunst to join the MCU. Garfield, who starred as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, will be back, though it's not clear if he will be suiting up. Meanwhile, Kirsten Dunst, who played Mary Jane Watson in the original three Spider-Man films from Sam Raimi, will return to her iconic role.

The news follows today's earlier confirmation that Alfred Molina will play Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 3 after rumors emerged recently about his return. The villain will join Jamie Foxx's Electro, or a version of him, jumping over from Garfield's second film. Collider also claims that Tobey Maguire is in talks to join the film as his version of Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the original film trilogy. Maguire's return as Spider-Man has been a rumor for quite some time, and the latest casting seems to paint it as a foregone conclusion. In addition to these more concrete details, Collider also believes Emma Stone will return as Gwen Stacy, though that appears to just be speculation from the outlet at this point.

With Foxx, Molina, Garfield and Dunst all back, and Maguire and Stone possibly not far behind, it's clear that the final entry and Marvel and Sony's Spider-Man trilogy will delve into the Spider-Verse, mirroring 2018's hit animated film (and the comics that inspired it). Only two months ago, following the news of Foxx's return, we learned that Doctor Strange will mentor Spider-Man in the upcoming film. Not only will he fill the slot previously held by Iron Man and Nick Fury, but the presence of the Sorcerer Supreme further bolsters the idea of a dimension-hopping storyline. After all, the next Doctor Strange film is subtitled The Multiverse of Madness.

And it wouldn't be a Spider-Verse film without Miles Morales. Yet more rumors indicate that the young wall-crawler will also appear in Spider-Man 3 after being teased in Homecoming. With filming wrapped on the project and a release date little more than a year out, expect many of these casting reports and rumors to be confirmed by Marvel Studios in the coming months.

Directed by Jon Watts, the currently untitled sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina and Benedict Cumberbatch. The film arrives in theaters Dec. 17, 2021.
