The heroes of the Spider-Verse are no strangers to variations on the classic Spider-Man costume. Peter Parker has had a plethora of different suits with various abilities over the years. Some of his costumes gave Peter a big advantage over his enemies or otherwise augmented his powers, such as his Big Time suit and his various Spider Armors. However, the strongest Spider-suit never actually belonged to Peter, and instead was owned by Dr. Max Borne, the obscure Spider-Man from the year 2211.

Max Borne is one of the more unique versions of Spider-Man that have been introduced thus far. He hails from the same universe as Spider-Man 2099, although he did not adopt the role until over a hundred years later. Borne first appeared in 1995's Spider-Man 2099 Meets Spider-Man by Peter David and Rick Leonardi, in which Peter Parker and Spider-Man 2099 are transported to the year 2211. The pair are captured by the Hobgoblin of 2211 who plans to erase the heroes from history. The heroes are saved by Borne, who is then able to return them to their own time.

Max Borne was not seen again until he appeared ten years later in Peter David and Mike Wieringo's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #9. This story revealed that Borne was a timespinner who was responsible for stopping crimes before they could happen. His daughter ended up becoming the Hobgoblin of 2211 in an effort to make her father proud, and he was responsible for her arrest.

Max Borne traveled back in time and teamed up with Peter Parker in 2006 to defeat his daughter. His plan ultimately failed as his daughter tried to erase him from existence with one of her bombs. Peter was able to stop the bomb before it hit Borne and redirected it back at the Hobgoblin, making her disappear from all reality. Borne fled the scene in anguish and went to collect a displaced Ben Parker, intending to return him to his proper place and time. Unbeknownst to Borne, Ben Parker had been killed and replaced by the Chameleon, who in turn killed Borne.

While Max may be one of the more obscure Spider-Heroes, he possessed one of the strongest spider costumes ever seen. Much like Otto Octavius' Doctor Octopus, his armor was outfitted with four mentally controlled cybernetic arms that he could use to aid him in battle. His outfit also contained guided webbing which tracked and incapacitated his enemies in a manner similar to heat-seeking missiles. However, Borne's most unique ability came from his profession as a timespinner. With this knowledge and technology, he was able to view alternate timelines and predict the most probable future events. He could also use his technology to wipe the memories of other people.

While Peter Parker and the other Spider-Verse heroes have had extremely powerful suits, none of them live up to the strength of Max Borne's suit. In addition to being equipped with 200 years of advanced technology the suit also possesses the capability to travel through and alter time. The symbiote suit that Peter once wore is arguably just as strong as Borne's suit but the symbiote had a mind of its own, never relinquishing control completely to Peter.

Doctor Octopus' Superior Spider-Man suit also gives Max Borne's costume a run for its money. The Superior suit also possessed an extra set of limbs as well as improved webbing and retractable talons. While this suit was strong, the technological advancements present in Borne's suit place it in its own class. Max's suit possesses almost all of the same characteristics as the Superior suit but takes it a step further with its time-travel and mind-altering abilities.

Unfortunately, Max Borne's appearances have been few and far between. While it appeared that he died in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #10, Borne was seen again during Dan Slott's Spider-Verse event. It's unclear whether he survived the point-blank gunshot rendered by the Chameleon, or if his appearance was due entirely to the benefits of time-travel. Still, there is much more to be told in the story of Max Boone, and a reappearance at some point is sure to be merely a matter of time.
