Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse featured a lot of different versions of the titular wallcrawler from across the multiverse. The post-credits scene for the film even included a cameo from Miguel O'Hara, Spider-Man 2099. The hero's co-creator, Peter David, revealed his reaction to the inclusion, and he was pretty happy about it.

"I was so freakin’ thrilled to see Miguel up there, I was just so happy," David told Comics: The Gathering

He did have a grievance, though. "I was mildly annoyed that Lyla did not look at all like Marilyn Monroe, but I can understand why Sony decided to avoid getting protests from the estate of Ms. Monroe over it," he explained. "I mean, I'm sure they didn’t give a damn about her showing up in the comic book, but if she's in a big screen motion picture, they might have gotten a tad, you know— letters from lawyers, and who needs that aggravation?"

In the comics, Lyla is Miguel's trusty personal assistant, helping him solve problems as Spider-Man and in his civilian identity. Her name is an acronym for LYrate Lifeform Approximation, and she's been known to take the form of other figures. Most notably, however, she assumes a Marilyn Monroe-like figure, as mentioned by David.

Created by Peter David and Rick Leonardi, Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 first appeared in the pages of 1992's The Amazing Spider-Man #365 in a preview for his own solo series. Oscar Isaac voiced O'Hara in the hero's Into the Spider-Verse cameo, which also featured Lyla  for a brief second before parodying the "Spider-Man Pointing at Spider-Man" meme.

O'Hara is set to return in November when Marvel Comics returns to some of its 2099 characters, with solicitations revealing he'll play a role in Amazing Spider-Man #33 and #34.
