In the early 2000s, films based on superhero comics became one of the most popular genres in the film industry. These days, thousands of fans watch the newest MCU movie as soon as it releases. In those films, Tom Holland plays Spider-Man, but he wasn't always the infamous webslinger. In Sam Raimi's trilogy, Tobey Maguire was New York's greatest hero.

Peter's relationship with Harry changed a lot throughout the films. They started off as best friends. However, at the end of the first film, Harry was led to believe that Spider-Man killed his father. Knowing that Peter had a connection to Spider-Man, he started to resent his friend. After agreeing to give Otto tritium in return for bringing Spider-Man to him, he told Otto that Peter knew Spider-Man but not to hurt the friend he believed in.

Harry wasn't the only person who knew Peter and hated Spider-Man. J. Jonah Jameson was the Daily Bugle's editor-in-chief and Peter's boss. He had Peter take photos of Spider-Man and always believed that the webslinger was New York's enemy rather than a hero. After Peter decided that he didn't want to be the webslinger anymore, Jonah blamed himself. Having Spider-Man's suit, Peter needed to get it back when he was ready to fight Doctor Octopus. Jonah was not happy about losing the suit but even he admitted that Spider-Man was a hero.

The reason Peter decided to stop being Spider-Man was because he couldn't keep his personal life in order while saving the city. Spider-Man lost Mary Jane after failing to see the show she was in while everyone else in her life saw it.

He tried to explain to her that he wasn't allowed in when he was late on the day he tried to see it, but she wasn't ready to forgive him. When he got rid of his suit, he finally saw her performance.

At the end of the movie, Mary Jane's suspicions of Peter being Spider-Man were confirmed. She saw him without his mask on and everything became clear to her. The two spoke to each other about what the future had in store for them. Despite loving her, he rejected the idea of the two of them being together because he didn't want to put her in danger. However, she decided that she loved him enough to take the risk and the two became an item.

Peter always wanted to make his uncle proud. After realizing that being Spider-Man was a choice, he thought about what Ben would say to him. Uncle Ben would have wanted Peter to be a hero and overcome the obstacles in his personal life without giving up on the city. This was Peter's response, believing that he was no longer responsible for the powers he was given. Though his relationships got better and his grades improved, nothing could have held him back from being who he truly is for long.

When Peter visited Aunt May, she told him that her neighbor, Henry, admires Spider-Man and wants to be just like him. When Peter asks why he would want that, she explains why Spider-Man is so important to New York. He helps give people the strength that they need and is an inspiration for all of them to be better. Her words helped him realize that he should be Spider-Man again.

4 "You're Weak. You Were Always Weak. You'll Always Be Weak Until You Take Control. Now You Know The Truth About Peter. Be Strong, Harry. Avenge Me. Avenge Me!"

At the end of the movie, Harry learned that his best friend and worst enemy were the same person all along. He started having hallucinations of his father.

When Norman said these words to him, Harry through the knife in his hand at the mirror he saw Norman on, revealing a secret room that had Green Goblin's suit, uniform, and weapons in it. Upon discovering all of this, Harry decided to become the next Goblin.

For a long time, Aunt May did not know the truth about how her husband died and blamed herself for his death. Feeling guilty, Peter told her that he wanted to buy a car and entered a wrestling tournament. After winning but not getting the money he deserved, a thief stole it. Peter let the man escape. Moments later, he stole Uncle Ben's car and was blamed for his death. After confessing the truth to Aunt May, she didn't speak to him for a while but was able to forgive him by the end of the movie.

After the movie's villain Doctor Octopus brought Spider-Man to Harry and got the tritium, Harry was finally able to get his revenge. However, before he killed him, he wanted to know who Spider-Man was. He grabbed the knife that he would later throw at his vision of Norman but dropped it and collapsed, believing that his friend betrayed him. Though the two didn't fight in this movie, Harry would do everything he could to hurt Peter in Spider-Man 3.

Throughout the movie, Otto lost sight of who he really was and put New York in danger to try to achieve his goal. Peter revealed to him that he was Spider-Man so that he could turn Otto back into who he used to be. Though at first he resisted, Otto soon realized that Peter was right. Regretting the choices that he made, he gave his life to save the city he could have destroyed.
