Jessica Jones might not much care what's behind her superpowers, but that doesn't make fans of her Netflix show any less curious.

Shade VFX, the special effects house responsible for the visual magic on Netflix's "Jessica Jones" series, has released a short featurette that explores the behind-the-scenes process that brought life to the "gifts" of Krysten Ritter's Jess, Mike Colter's Luke Cage and David Tennant's Kilgrave on the show.

Hell's Kitchen of the MCU is nothing new to the New York outfit, who were making their second visit after doing Emmy-nominated work on Neflix's "Daredevil" series, and while the tense, noirish "Jessica Jones" relied less on action and effects to foster the drama than other Marvel projects, the video shows that their most important job might not have been to rig one single, spectacular sequence, but instead to ground Jess's world in such a way that audiences could feel as normal about her powers as the character did, herself. "Trust, power and control are the show's most dominant themes, and invisible VFX are once again the showpiece, helping to push forward the darker elements," the company says.

Shade, who also worked on "The Wolverine," reports to have handled more than 600 visual effects shots on "Jessica Jones", working closely with the cast and crew during production through on-set FX supervisor Karl Coyner and producer Julie Long.
