Next month, Spawn will officially become the longest-running, creator-owned comic book series published by a major North American publisher, and creator Todd McFarlane has provided fans with a sneak peek at the record-breaking issue.
With Spawn #301 surpassing Dave Sim's Cerberus, the landmark issue will have a whole host of superstar talent including McFarlane himself, Greg Capullo, Jason Shawn Alexander and more. McFarlane posted a video online providing a look at the upcoming comic title.
Starting with the final two pages from Spawn #300, illustrated by Jerome Opena, McFarlane then reveals he is in the middle of inking the opening pages to Spawn #301, teasing a confrontation between a mysterious figure wielding a katana and a hulking demon at the mouth of an ominous temple.
As one of the original, bestselling titles that helped launch Image Comics after its co-founding by McFarlane in 1992, Spawn helped bring creator-owned comics into the American mainstream and has been a steady fan-favorite ever since.
Spawn #301 is written by Todd McFarlane and illustrated by McFarlane, Greg Capullo, Jason Shawn Alexander, Clayton Crain, Jerome Opena, Francesco Mattina and more. It is scheduled to go on sale Oct. 2 from Image Comics.
