New cover art for DC's upcoming Batman/Spawn crossover sees the Dark Knight being bested by the all-powerful Hellspawn.

DC Comics revealed brand-new variant cover art for the Batman/Spawn crossover during the "Spotlight on Todd McFarlane! Breaking Spawn Movie News, Upcoming Batman/Spawn Comic and more!" panel at New York Comic Con on Oct. 7. One of the variant covers created by Greg Capullo, which is also vaguely reminiscent of Todd McFarlane's The Amazing Spider-Man #316 cover, shows Batman/Bruce Wayne trapped in Spawn/Al Simmons' chains. Additional revealed art comes from Sean Murphy, J. Scott Campbell, Jorge Jiménez, Gabriele Dell'Otto and a 1:25 ink variant from Jason Fabok.

The publisher also announced Batman/Spawn #1 will be sold at Barnes & Nobles stores when the one-shot releases this December with an exclusive variant from McFarlane and Capullo. Batman/Spawn #1 marks the first time Barnes & Noble has carried a mainstream DC title since 2019's Detective Comics #1000. Additionally, the publisher also unveiled a special glow-in-the-dark variant by McFarlane and Capullo.

Announced during San Diego Comic-Con, Batman/Spawn marks the first crossover between the two characters in nearly three decades. The synopsis reads, "Two dark heroes, cursed by tragedy, find their paths crossing again...but not by choice! What sinister foe is at work, pitting the Dark Knight against the Hellspawn? From the shadows of Gotham City to New York City, this epic event is the blockbuster you’ve been waiting almost two decades for!" DC also revealed the Court of Owls will play a major role in the story as they recruit Spawn in an effort to defeat Batman once and for all."

"Look, this is really simple," McFarlane previously said of Batman/Spawn. "I get to play with one of the greatest comic characters ever (Batman), get to reunite with amazing artist Greg Capullo, AND am able to mix in my own creation (Spawn) into the storyline. These are the types of projects many of us creators in the comic industry only get to be a part of a few times in our careers," He continued, "My goal with this book is two-fold; First to just make it as fun a read as possible both visually and story wise. Then second, I hope this book will continue to add to some of the many reasons any of us actually collect superhero comic books. That's to release an "Event" book that folks will remember for years to come. This should be one heck of a nice holiday gift!"

Batman/Spawn #1 releases Dec. 13 from DC Comics.
