Greg Capullo hinted at his return to Spawn, as well as a new look for the character, in a recent sketch.

The comic book artist posted his creation on Twitter, with the caption "Tease." Known for his work on Batman and Dark Nights: Metal, Capullo brought the metal energy to his new work, as Medieval Spawn appears in heavy armor adorned with chains and spikes while She-Spawn stands at his side.

Capullo contributed to the Spawn series between 1993 and 2000, returning in 2019 to assist with the 300th issue and in 2020 to develop covers for a few issues. He even illustrated the Angela miniseries, focused on the Spawn angel and written by popular author Neil Gaiman. As of late, Capullo has been working with Scott Snyder on DC's Dark Nights: Death Metal, a sequel to 2017's Dark Nights: Metal. His role in upcoming Spawn projects has not been revealed.

In a recent interview with CBR, Spawn's creator Todd McFarlane discussed the character's longevity and Capullo's work. Complimenting the comic book artist, McFarlane said, "...he's been around for 25 years and the entire body of his work rarely lets you down, if ever. That's why you like Greg Capullo; he's just amazing and whatever he draws, you're going to go for it."

McFarlane has been developing a larger Spawn universe by creating three new titles. All launching in 2021, the expansion includes King Spawn and The Scorched, as well as the Spawn's Universe one-shot featuring the artwork of Brett Booth and J. Scott Campbell.
