WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Space Jam: A New Legacy, now in theaters and on HBO Max.

In Space Jam: A New Legacy, the sequel follows the original with the Goon Squad hammering the Tune Squad, leaving them physically and mentally broken by halftime. The new rules of this video game world, the Serververse, has them up by hundreds of points, leading to LeBron James trying his best to rally the team. However, Don Cheadle's Al-G Rhythm has numerous cheat codes. It leads to a pep-talk and a hilarious cameo that places a clever twist on the first movie.

As LeBron, Bugs and Co. plan, Sylvester arrives claiming he's got the trump card -- he's found Michael Jordan. The squad's elated because, to them, he's the best player ever and the reason why they beat the Monstars. However, as the fog clears amid the dramatic footsteps and epic music, the secret weapon is actually revealed to be Michael B. Jordan, not "Sir Airness."

It's a humorous swerve that catches LeBron, the Tune Squad and even the audience off-guard. It was believable, though, because with folks tuning into their phones to watch the game, they were sucked into Al-G's digital world to spectate. Therefore, it stands to reason that MJ could have been as well.

However, the actor, who fans know best as Marvel's Killmonger and Adonis Creed, ends up in the packed crowd instead. He was merely going for popcorn when Sylvester found him. Ideally, they could have done with MJ because he used the cartoon world in the first film to beat the aliens.

Nevertheless, Michael B. Jordan tries to lift their spirits. Although his speech gets too serious and emotional, to the point LeBron tells him it's best if he leaves. And so he does. But not without reminding the "King" that he came back from a 3-1 down in the 2016 NBA Finals to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers over the Golden State Warriors. This was the Cavaliers' first championship, fulfilling LeBron's promise to the franchise, which now inspires him to let the Tune Squad be themselves and stop playing his fundamental game

Ultimately, it's an awesome play on the names of both superstars, which came about accidentally. Michael B.Jordan was on the Warner Bros. lot chilling with LeBron when director Malcolm D. Lee and his team improvised and came up with the gag. And it fills the Jordan gap perfectly, especially as the basketball star made it clear he was done with Space Jam.

Now in theaters and on HBO Max, catch LeBron James and the Looney Tunes gang in Space Jam: A New Legacy.
