With the eagerly anticipated Space Jam 2 expected to begin principal photography during the NBA's off-season to accommodate star Lebron James' athletic commitments, the upcoming sequel has begun to expand its cast.

Sonequa Martin-Green, who currently stars as Michael Burnham on CBS All Access' Star Trek: Discovery, is in final talks to appear in the NBA-Looney Tunes crossover film, with sources indicating she will portray James' wife.

The casting news makes Martin-Green, who also previously starred in The Walking Dead, the first potential addition to the cast outside of  James. Co-produced by Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler, filming is expected to begin sometime this summer. Details on the film's story are still under wraps, but its predecessor featured Michael Jordan leading a team of Looney Tunes against extraterrestrial basketball players who stole the abilities of several NBA star athletes for intergalactic supremacy.

Martin-Green had wrapped filming Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery in December, though the series has since been renewed for a third season. No official production start date has been announced for Season 3 of Discovery.
