Warner Bros.' live-action adaptation Space Invaders has beamed up Black List screenwriter Dan Kunka, Deadline reports.

The film rights were originally optioned in 2011, but it remains anyone's guess how the straightforward 1978 arcade game -- players fire a laser cannon at a never-ending field of aliens -- will translate into an actual story.

Kunka's credits include Yellowstone Falls and the upcoming adaptation of Winston Groom's novel Patriotic Fire: Andrew Jackson and Jean Laffite at the Battle of New Orleans. He also has a one-hour drama in the works for Syfy.
