WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Season 2 of Space Force, now available on Netflix.

The first season of Space Force set up a peculiar dynamic between Steve Carell's General Naird and his controversial ex-wife Maggie (played by Lisa Kudrow from Friends, which recently resumed streaming in China after its own issues). She was imprisoned with no chance of getting out for some mysterious crime, which was constantly teased but never explicitly revealed.

This created wild speculation among viewers of the Netflix series, especially considering how pleasant and upbeat Maggie was, making friends with everyone in lockup -- including the guards. While fans thought Season 2 would drop the bombshell and tell what Maggie did based on early footage, the show continued to toy with fans and still hasn't answered what's now become the show's biggest question. Maybe even bigger than Season 2's cliffhanger ending.

Space Force Maggie

Maggie appeared early in Season 2 via video conference as she met with Naird, their daughter Erin and Erin's school counselor about Erin's academic performance. She and Naird wanted Erin to up her grades to get into a good college, but it wasn't the best family conversation -- because Maggie divorced Naird and married a cellmate, creating tension between everyone involved. Seeing Maggie doing well in prison and that Space Force's prison seems to be a relatively well-kept place, people have been wondering if become a kingpin in a spot that seems to take care of white-collar criminals.

Erin and Naird clearly still loved edand miss the eccentric Maggie, hoping someday a judge could find leniency and grant her parole. Even if she wouldn't be happy with them, they wanted her to be free. But later on, Erin almost revealed the truth about Maggie when Captain Lancaster called in before heading to Mars in the Season 2 finale "The Hack." Instead of talking to his colleagues (maybe Chan was busy with his toxic relationship), he had a chat with Erin about family. Lancaster understood her wanting to get away from Naird and Colorado to do a gap year in Europe, but said that family was important.

Space Force family

Lancaster hadn't seen his family in years -- including his newborn -- thanks to his work with Space Force, so he suggested that the problem with Maggie wasn't that big a deal. His own mom was thrown in the clinker for selling fake Estée Lauder products! But Erin admitted Maggie did something "much worse." Unfortunately, right when she was about to say what "much worse" was, the Russians hacked the base and all communication was lost.

Space Force then switched gears to the Americans wresting control back of headquarters and regaining access to a satellite the Russians were trying to steal from them -- before realizing an asteroid was on its way to collide with Earth. Making matters worse, the series has yet to be renewed for Season 3 by Netflix, meaning that viewers might be left wondering whether or not humanity survived and never know what it was that landed Maggie behind bars.

See how Maggie's shady past remains a secret in Space Force, with both seasons now streaming on Netflix.
