Apparently determined to catch up to "The Simpsons," Comedy Central has renewed "South Park" through 2019, which will bring the animated series to 23 seasons and 304 episodes.

In a separate deal, South Park Digital Studios, a joint venture between Viacom and "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, has extended its streaming agreement with Hulu to cover the additional seasons.

“Nearly two decades later, ‘South Park’ today remains as important and influential as any series on any platform and has become one of the most recognizable brands to ever come out of television,” Doug Herzog, president of the Viacom Music & Entertainment Group, said in a statement. “Through South Park Digital Studios we will continue to aggressively expand the reach of the ‘South Park’ brand by pursuing additional extensions and licensing opportunities worldwide.”

The 19th season of "South Park" premieres Sept. 16 on Comedy Central.
