Source Code's Duncan Jones Signs on to World of Warcraft

The World of Warcraft just moved one giant step closer to reaching the big screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Pictures has tapped Duncan Jones to direct a film based on Blizzard's incredibly popular massively multiplayer online role-playing game.

Jones broke out with 2009's Moon, the critically acclaimed sci-fi film starring Sam Rockwell. He followed that up with 2011's Source Code, a sci-fi action movie with a bigger budget featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan. With each project, Jones has been entrusted with larger budgets; the one for World of Warcraft is expected to be about $100 million.

With a slew of expansions and more than 9 million people playing characters they created themselves, there's a continent of material to mine. Legendary hired Seventh Son scribe Charles Leavitt to pen a script, but nothing has been said about what the story entails.
