Disney and Pixar released the latest poster for the animated film Soul, which will premiere on Disney+ on Christmas.

The film will be available on the streaming service starting on Dec. 25. In markets where Disney+ is not available, Soul will premiere in theaters. Those dates have yet to be determined.

Soul was originally scheduled to premiere on June 19, 2020. However, the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic forced theaters to close, moving the film to Nov. 20. It is the latest Disney film to skip theaters for the streamer, including Artemis Fowl, Hamilton and Mulan. Unlike Mulan, which was released on Disney+ under the Premier Access banner for $30, Soul will be available to subscribers at no extra cost.

"We are thrilled to share Pixar's spectacular and moving Soul with audiences direct to Disney+ in December," said Disney CEO Bob Chapek at the time of the Christmas launch announcement. "A new original Pixar film is always a special occasion, and this truly heartwarming and humorous story about human connection and finding one’s place in the world will be a treat for families to enjoy together this holiday season."

The move to streaming upset the International Union of Cinemas (UNIC), which said that Disney's decision will hurt European cinemas that have "invested massively in offering the safest possible experience to their audiences on the basis of a promising schedule of new film releases." The streamer is available across Western Europe, so it will not play in theaters in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy, among others.

The synopsis for Soul can be found below:

What is it that makes you...YOU? Pixar Animation Studios’ Soul introduces Joe Gardner – a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22, who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what’s great about living, he may just discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions.

Directed by Pete Docter, Soul stars Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Questlove, Phylicia Rashad, Daveed Diggs and Angela Bassett. The film will debut on Disney+ on Dec. 25.
